What is Vedic Mathematics?
Vedic Mathematics is the name given to the system of mathematics rediscovered by Sri Bharati Krsna Tirthaji (1884-1960). This system of math consists of 16 sutras (or word-formulas) and 14 sub-sutras. These sutras and sub-sutras describe the way the mind works, and therefore allow most of the computations to be done mentally. The greatest part about the system though is its coherence, the whole system is inter-related and unified.

Are they really from the Vedas?
There are claims that they are in fact from the Vedas, however this has been disputed. I won’t go into a debate about whether or not they originate in the Vedas, I’ll leave that for the scholars. To me personally, even if they aren’t from the Vedas, it is still a great mathematical system and thats whats important to me.
What branches of math is it useful for?
Today, the majority of people only use Vedic Math for basic arithmetic and algebra. However, Vedic Math can be used for much more than just that…in fact it can be applied to just about any field of mathematics, all the way from Arithmetic up to Calculus.
